Iain Smith: ADI Trainer

Our driving instructor trainer in Preston is called Iain Smith, he has been a driving instructor for over 40 years and he is the ADI trainer at Preston Driving School Ltd, Students Driving School and also Quick-Pass Driver Training
Iain has been conducting driving instructor training courses in Preston for over 40 years and he has trained many hundreds of people to become driving instructors.
In his career he has undergone a total of seven Check Tests which are now known as Standard Checks all of which he received the highest possible grading in every category on every single test.
He is also on the DVSA ORDIT register since 2003. Being on the ORDIT register means that a trainer gets inspected regularly by an ORDIT Examiner, these inspections are extremely thorough and designed to assess many skills of a trainer.
The ORDIT inspections also act as a protection to the public from any unqualified people doing instructor training.
Since 2003 Iain has been inspected eight times by the ORDIT Examiners and once again he received the highest possible marks in every category on every inspection.

Soldier In The British Army
Iain joined the British Army straight from school where he passed his learner driving test first time at the age of 17, after that the army enabled him to gain valuable lifetime experience driving many different types of armoured vehicles both in the UK and abroad, whilst serving in the army Iain also went on to pass his HGV Class 2 and 3 tests.
Long Distance Lorry Driver
After his army career Iain went on to pass his HGV Class One test and then joined a local general haulage transport company in Preston where he drove all over the UK transporting everything and anything to nearly every town and city all over the country, in fact he said the only thing he never transported was actual live animals. It was while being a long distance lorry driver when he got the idea of changing his career to become a driving instructor after he successfully taught another driver to pass his HGV Class One test first time
